Black-powder

Black powder pistol shooting is becoming a popular discipline within St. Nicholas. Taking place at Bisley on the Winans Range, this discipline provides members with an experience of shooting that was in use some 150 years ago. As well as percussion rifles and pistols, several members also shoot flintlock rifles and pistols.

As of July 2006, we have been granted a variation to the Club range safety certificate that now permits us to shoot black-powder on the 25yds outdoor range. Using mainly revolvers and single-shot pistols, the activity usually takes place on a Saturday morning.

Besides the 1851 Colt Navy revolver, the black powder shooter needs black powder, a powder flask, percussion caps, lead balls, spare nipples, nipple wrench and grease. It's a messy sport with clouds of smoke, but great fun to shoot!

For a more traditional black-powder pistol, how about an even older single shot percussion duelling pistol from the 17th century?
